A FEW FACTS ABOUT BIRTH CERTIFICATES
A "Birth Certificate" is issued in the County that the person is born in. For example, if the parents live in Montgomery County and the child is born in Marion County, then the "Birth Certificate" is issued in Marion County and the record is recorded there.
Birth Certificates are used for proof of birth. Why would someone need proof?

To obtain a State ID from BMV;

To obtain a Driver's License from BMV;

For a Passport;

To go on a cruise, or travel to Canada or Mexico;

For Social Security Administration; and/or

Registration for school.
All "Birth Certificates" have to be certified with the Health Officer's Seal.
The "Hospital Birth Certificate" is only a gift and cannot be used as a legal document. Montgomery County started keeping birth and death records in 1882. You can also obtain "Birth Certificates" from the Indiana State Dept. of Health, Vital Records Division.
